Hosting honey bee colonies on commercial or urban residental properties provides an excellent opportunity, not just for supporting environmental sustainability, but for engaging with nature in a setting that might not typically be considered "natural". Fortunately, honey bees possess an amazing capacity to forage nectar, pollen, water, and tree sap in the most unlikely of places.
We offer the opportunity for your business, your building, or your household to explore the amazing inner workings of beehives and the wider world of pollinators and how they impact the environment....and human beings.
There's a very good chance that you'll get something sweet in return!

These four beehives reside atop the rooftop on the campus of Capital One in Goochland county. They had been at ground level before a bear attack required that they be moved to the roof!
Rooftop beekeeping has both challenges and benefits for both the beekeeper and the bees. It is available where there is elevator or readily accessable stairway access.
These colonies are in Richmond's Bellevue neighborhood and on the grounds of Westminster Canterbury Richmond retirement community ---right next to the resident's raised bed gardens. These colonies produced 114 pounds of honey that was bottled, labeled and quickly sold through the WCR gift shop. We provide pollinator educational programing to residents, who are always welcome to observe hive inspections in progress.
At first glance this might not look like eight honey bee colonies---but it is! There are four colonies on the bottom of each stack, each with an additional colony on top---with a separate entrance. These hives are located in an urban neighborhood in Northside Richmond on the side yard of an environmentally conscious family.
